Out Run

Until Out Run, coin-operated arcade games talked to us in a series of unintelligible beeps and warbles. Out Run changed that - here was a game that actually looked and sounded like it there was some notionary possibility of it being real life. Okay - so you dig a little deeper and realise that there aren't all that many places in the world that have five-lane highways running between beach huts and the ocean. Nor do many lorries make it to 250 kilometres per hour.

But to criticise the game for that would be petty and miss the point somewhat.

What follows is an unashamed homage to what it is that I love so much about Out Run over and above any other coin-op arcade game I've ever played.
